FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN

Romans 3:1-2 

What Advantage Then Hath The Jew? Or What Profit Is There Of Circumcision? Much Every Way: Chiefly, Because That Unto Them Were Committed The Oracles Of God.

God chose the Jewish people as His people. 

God chose the Jewish men to set up His Temple. 

God gave His Law and Prophecies to the Jewish men. 

Oracle: a person through whom a God speaks 

Hebrews 8:8-10,13 

For Finding Fault With Them, He Saith, Behold, The Days Come, Saith The Lord, When I Will Make A New Covenant With The House Of Israel And With The House Of Judah: 

[9] Not According To The Covenant That I Made With Their Fathers In The Day When I Took Them By The Hand To Lead Them Out Of The Land Of Egypt; Because They Continued Not In My Covenant, And I Regarded Them Not, Saith The Lord. For This Is The Covenant That I Will Make With The House Of Israel After Those Days, Saith The Lord; I Will Put My Laws Into Their Mind, And Write Them In Their Hearts: And I Will Be To Them A God, And They Shall Be To Me A People: 

[13] In That He Saith, A New Covenant, He Hath Made The First Old. Now That Which Decayeth And Waxeth Old Is Ready To Vanish Away.

Romans 6:14 

For Sin Shall Not Have Dominion Over You: For Ye Are Not Under The Law, BUT UNDER GRACE.

Romans 3:20-21 

Therefore By The Deeds Of The Law There Shall No Flesh Be Justified In His Sight: For By The Law Is The Knowledge Of Sin. But Now The Righteousness Of God Without The Law Is Manifested, Being Witnessed By The Law And The Prophets;

Now in The New Testament as you read in Romans God told the Jewish men that there was a New Way, A New Covenant and they were no longer under The Law, But Grace. 

What does that mean, well,  under The Law was the knowledge of sin. Every time you broke The Law you sinned. Jesus kept The Law and paid the price of sinning, He went into Hell, and the wrath of God was satisfied. Our Faith In Jesus Christ and His payment for our sins makes us Righteous in the eyes of God. If you continue in The Law to be justified, then it is not Grace. 

Romans 4:4-5

Now To Him That Worketh Is The Reward Not Reckoned Of Grace, But Of Debt. But To Him That Worketh Not, But Believeth On Him That Justifieth The Ungodly, His Faith Is Counted For Righteousness.

Romans 10:4 

For Christ Is The End Of The Law For Righteousness To Every One That Believeth.

Galatians 2:11-21

But When Peter Was Come To Antioch, I Withstood Him To The Face, Because He Was To Be Blamed. For Before That Certain Came From James, He Did Eat With The Gentiles: But When They Were Come, He Withdrew And Separated Himself, Fearing Them Which Were Of The Circumcision. And The Other Jews Dissembled Likewise With Him; Insomuch That Barnabas Also Was Carried Away With Their Dissimulation.

But When I Saw That They Walked Not Uprightly According To The Truth Of The Gospel, I Said Unto Peter Before Them All, If Thou, Being A Jew, Livest After The Manner Of Gentiles, And Not As Do The Jews, Why Compellest Thou The Gentiles To Live As Do The Jews? We Who Are Jews By Nature, And Not Sinners Of The Gentiles, Knowing That A Man Is Not Justified By The Works Of The Law, But By The Faith Of Jesus Christ, Even We Have Believed In Jesus Christ, That We Might Be Justified By The Faith Of Christ, And Not By The Works Of The Law: For By The Works Of The Law Shall No Flesh Be Justified. But If, While We Seek To Be Justified By Christ, We Ourselves Also Are Found Sinners, Is Therefore Christ The Minister Of Sin? God Forbid. For If I Build Again The Things Which I Destroyed, I Make Myself A Transgressor. For I Through The Law Am Dead To The Law, That I Might Live Unto God. I Am Crucified With Christ: Nevertheless I Live; Yet Not I, But Christ Liveth In Me: And The Life Which I Now Live In The Flesh I Live By The Faith Of The Son Of God, Who Loved Me, And Gave Himself For Me. I Do Not Frustrate The Grace Of God: For If Righteousness Come By The Law, Then Christ Is Dead In Vain.

Even Peter felt pressure on him to keep The Law when the Jewish men came from James. Peter was confronted by Paul and told of his errors. Paul said that the Jews were the chosen Holy people of God, and the Gentiles were sinners under The Law Of God, but under The Grace Of God through Christ Jesus, we are all sinners and Jesus Christ Paid the Price for all of us. Jesus became sin for us all so He could pay for all. 

2 Corinthians 5:21

For He Hath Made Him To Be Sin For Us, Who Knew No Sin; That We Might Be Made The Righteousness Of God In Him.
